Widow throws party to find place in heaven

This headline screamed out to me as I scanned the news.

A very wealthy 80-year-old widow in India spent thousands on a two day party for more than 100,000 people. Why? She hopes it pleases God, who will “open the doors of Heaven to her”.

What a sad story. I am so glad it doesn’t work that way. It’s interesting how complicated we try to make it. All her effort, time and money wasted. You cannot buy your way into Heaven. You don’t earn entrance via favor. Salvation is a gift from God. It’s free!!!

Eph 2:8 You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God's gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own.
Eph 2:9 It isn't something you have earned, so there is nothing you can brag about.

It is that simple which works out great, because I am not rich enough in earthly terms and I promise I will do something dumb every day that would keep me out. So I could never “earn it” Fortunately, God offers forgiveness of our sins through grace. He washes them clean. Gone ! Deleted! Never remembered again. All you have to do is ask.

Entry to heaven is free. You can receive it right now by faith through prayer: All you have to do is pray this prayer

"Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be."

Did you pray this prayer? Did you mean it? If you did Christ will come into your life, as He promised.
[Christ speaking] "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him" (Revelation 3:20).

Can you guess what I was reading today ?

Thursday, June 05, 2008

Alain Robert, the so called "French Spiderman" was arrested today for climbing a skyscraper in New York City. When arrested he said it was to raise awareness of Global Warming.

Say What ?

Other than the obvious plug from that statement, how does climbing up the side of a building connect with the issue of global warming?

Does Global Warming even exist? Or is it just a part of very long term weather patterns that have existed since creation? I can find studies supporting and refuting the entire theory.

Well that is for another blog.

Nickel and Dime us to death

On my recent trips via the Airlines I have noticed a sad trend. A-La Carte services, at a price.

Almost no one serves meals anymore, even on trans continental flight of several hours. These days you are lucky if your flight serves water and crackers. And forget taking food past security.

I understand how the price of fuel has doubled in the past year and how it is up an additional 40% this summer. Apparently raising the ticket prices doesn't work too well. Because I see where several times an airline tries, but has to come back down when no others follow.

Something has to be done to off set the fuel costs I know, but this is maddening.

We are becoming victims of price gouging at 32,000 feet.

"Attention Travelers today our 'Blue Light Specials' are peanuts and Sprite for only $7.95"

In the past few weeks airlines including American and US Air announced various surcharges to cover the new high cost of fuel. Expect more fees and surcharges to be coming your way.

Every major carrier is now charging for the second piece of checked luggage. American goes it one better ( WORSE ) and charges for all your bags. Some are charging a BOOKING FEE. Excuse me !! I have to pay extra just to pay you? Window seats and aisle seating are an extra on some.

Here are some fees you might expect to be paying if fuel costs for air carriers keep rising:

We had the Monk over this afternoon and evening. She and I got seriously vegged out watching the Monkey Chips ( "Chipmunks"), "Underdog" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". We also reviewed the latest dance steps for around an hour. Then Ash and Kristie made supper. Chicken strips, fries, and homemade biscuits. And for dessert. Monkey Bread, Ashley's speciality.

After eating we sang songs and danced some more. I am exhausted, she's just starting.

Great evening.

G'nite Monk Monk...Love ya !!

Oh today at lunch Kristie dined with John Stryder Nelson, aka "Edward Rock". He's a cute little fellow for sure. And obviously already in college. I am jealous.
Update to the previous blog rant :

It's now 12:25 and they just drove away. Four hours sitting idle wasting fuel. Oh and BTW they didn't actually do any work on the road.

Guess they were awaiting their lunch break

Now I understand why it costs nearly a million bucks to pave a 1/2 mile of road.

Next time they tell me not to pre-rinse my dishes......
Just a short rant:

I am sitting here in my home office going over some work and just outside parked across my farm driveway is a state owned asphalt truck. The D.O.T. is about to repair a small bad spot on the edge of the road just beyond my home.

I don't mind the truck being parked ( blocking ) my farm driveway. After all I am not using it. But the thing has been sitting there running since 8:07 this morning. It's 11:24 now. I own a greyhound type bus so I am not uninformed about the cost of shutting down a diesel engine and restarting it. But really. THREE HOURS sitting there burning fuel and doing nothing.

My tax dollar$ at work. And the Government has the nerve to tell me I am wasteful of resources.

Worse still another truck and a pick-up are sitting just down the road. Wanna bet they have been running all this time too?

I love flying. I finally got in a few minutes this afternoon. Just a few touch and go's. Even that is fun.
These photos are NOT from today. They were shot back around Christmas by a friend while we just cruised around. I finally loaded them on the computer tonight.
On the left here I am taking off around 5PM from Clemson. As you can see it was raining a little around Lake Hartwell These beautiful streaks of light always remind me of the glory of God

On the left here is Anderson University. The small one story building just to the left of the tower is Kristie's office. Back over the lake, I just love the reflection in this shot.

Heading home
