I've always felt that for a joke or cartoon to be funny we have to be able to identify with it, or at least there had to some small grain of truth presented. I bet you all can identify with this and as for truth. Well yeah !

When you think of the word faithful, what comes to mind?

Commitment, steadiness, obedient, authentic, soundness, dependable, trustworthy, loyal, reliable?

All these terms can describe faithful. It’s easy to assign some of these words to people we know. But there is one person who has all these characteristics, and all at the same time.

Jesus.

I’ve been reading the book of Mark and I gaining a greater understanding of some of the events in Jesus’ day. And a fuller picture of Jesus himself. Mark holds a truly amazing story, and I can’t wait to finish the last chapter.

We held our Christmas services at NewSpring Church this weekend. And we were slammed as expected. Over 14,000 people attended. And we'll never know how many will be with us via our Internet services. Most importantly 220 people that we know of became Christ Followers.

At our main location here in Anderson, we held five identical Christmas services. Two on Saturday and three on Sunday. I was proud to be on the production team for all five. It was an exhausting two FULL days, but there is no way I can express the overwhelming joy I felt seeing so many lives changed.

In one service just behind my camera position there was a whole row of teenagers accept Christ. That's twenty four young people who had their world rocked forever. You have no idea how hard it is to remained focused on camera shots when your eyes are filled with tears of joy.

We are a large church. And we have seen some amazing works of God again this year. But believe me. Seeing things like this NEVER gets old.

I am thankful to serve in a ministry that is on fire for God. A church that nothing else matters except Jesus. and to see things happen like this

A friend of mine was sharing this story with me. He and his seven year old daughter were watching the movie “The Passion of the Christ” recently, when she looked at him and ask, “Why did the people want Jesus to die?”
What a great question.
You know in those days Jesus had a following, but that compared to the general population of the time the following was small. I guess you could say that Jesus’ followers were in the minority. In those days a lot of the people were still ignorant of Jesus. They had no idea who he was, and really didn’t know anything about him, other than what they had “heard”. Some people were afraid of him because of his ability to heal. Some were “worried” about their status or their influence, people like the Pharisees. Jesus had made his feeling toward the Pharisees well known. In Mathew chapter 23 he pulls no punches stating in his feelings about the Pharisees with the “seven woes”.
The Pharisees had it made. They were looked up to by the people. They were also looked at as leaders by the people and by the ruling Romans. In that time the Romans did not care what the Israelites did day to day as long as they paid their taxes and honored Caesar and the Roman government. The Romans expected the Pharisees to insure the people stayed perks and favors. In some ways to the Israelites they were treated like royalty and they were honored with gifts. Just the mention of Jesus’ name threatened this lifestyle for them. If the people followed Jesus they would lose their status and power. So Jesus was a threat that had to be done away with. The Pharisees never expected for Jesus and his name to live on through his disciples. The Pharisees were not thinking of Jesus and of the people. They were focused on their own perks, focused on themselves.
We must always be on guard that we are not putting ourselves before Jesus. Remember, we are close to Jesus we are far away from ourselves.

Yesterday at my church we covered one of my favorite stories. Let those without sin cast the first stone. I love the wisdom of Jesus in the face of an obvious trap. I believe accusers set the woman up in their attempt to back Jesus into an answer they wanted to hear. Another question ...where was the man? I mean they caught the woman in the act with a man but where was he, why was he not accused as well? Was he in on it, a part of the trap for Jesus? I like the answer Jesus gave while writing in the sand. Have you ever wondered what he wrote? I believe he was listing all the sins of the accusers. That's just my opinion, because the bible doesn't record the answer. What a fantastic example of wisdom. Funny how when confronted the would be, stone throwing cowards retreated back into the shadows.

Last night our homegroup met for our thanksgiving supper. Because we all have family obligations during the holidays we bumped it up a little. Celebrating Thanksgiving started me thinking about our blessings.

This has been an eventful year for Kristie and me. There have been tough challenges, and almost brutal hardships, but we have also seen some overwhelming rewards and truly the good far exceeds the bad. It was a hectic year filled with ups and downs. I am thankful for all of it. God has used even the hard times to teach me lessons and to show me his plan. Well at least a part of his plan. (I am not ready to see it all.) In the highs and the lows, the good and the bad he has always been right there. God is answering prayers, a lot of times almost quicker than I can pray them.

Our homegroup is another area where God has been showing me amazing things. Leading a group is well beyond anything I could do myself. But God has been opening my eyes to his word in ways I've never seen before. Our members have all developed into close friends, ones we can count on. That is one of the blessings that have come my way.

It's not yet Thanksgiving Day, but I am thankful for all these things. I can't wait to see what next year brings.

I was riding along today and tuning the radio in my truck when I ran across a radio preacher. You know the old school kind. The ones who nearly shout with every word and sound as if their mouth were filled with something wet. One of those type preachers who put an “ah” sound at the end of every sentence. I’m not making fun here just trying to set the stage clearly.

I listened for a few minutes as he “went off” on men with long hair. He told how it was unholy to have long hair and how it was an abomination in the eyes of God. His message was filled with harsh words bordering on hate.

I guess he never saw a picture of Jesus and other men of the Bible.

Condemned by hair style.

Never once in the 10 minutes I listened did he tell of Gods love for mankind. How Jesus gave his life so that ALL might be saved. At no time did he offer any hope for his audience. It is so sad.

Hair styles are a product of man, not God. In some places maybe long hair is not the style. In other worlds short hair is a weird look.

I worry about the potential harm a sermon like this could do. How many radio listeners were turned away or caused to harden their hearts? I don’t believe in tolerance to all things or all behaviors, but I do believe in Christian love for ALL people. And shouldn’t those people, the outcast, down trodden, the nobodies be the ones we welcome with “Arms Wide Open”? . Casting Crowns has a song that’s addressing this subject well. It speaks of a woman who is an out cast because of her life, her fashion or her past and made to feel unwelcome in church. How many people are lost and dying without Jesus within the “Shadow of Our Steeple”? Those “secondhand people”. A newspaper once ran a headline, Local Church Filled with Sinners. Imagine that.

John 3:16 says “whosoever”. That means everyone. Drunks, Junkies, Prostitutes, people of any color and every past …EVERYONE!! Even Long Haired men.

Why I Can't Vote For Obama

Dear Friends, A few months ago I was asked for my perspective on Obama, I sent out an email with a few points. With the election just around the corner I decided to complete my perspective. Those of you on my e-list have seen some of this before but it's worth repeating...

First I must say whoever wins the election will have my prayer support. Obama needs to be commended for his accomplishments but I need to explain
why I will not be voting for him.

Many of my friends process their identity through their blackness. I process my identity through Christ. Being a Christian (a Christ follower) means He leads I follow. I can't dictate the terms He does because He is the leader.

I can't vote black because I am black; I have to vote Christian because that's who I am. Christian first, black second. Neither should anyone from the other ethnic groups vote because of ethnicity. 200 years from now I won't be asked if I was black or white. I will be asked if I knew Jesus and accepted Him as Lord and Savior.

In an election there are many issues to consider but when a society gets abortion, same-sex marriage, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning to name a few, wrong economic concerns will soon not matter.

We need to follow Martin Luther King's words, don't judge someone by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I don't know

Obama so all I can go off is his voting record. His voting record earned him the title of the most liberal senator in the US Senate in 2007.

To beat Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton as the most liberal senator, takes some doing. Obama accomplished this feat in 2 short years. I wonder what would happen to America if he had four years to work with.

There is a reason Planned Parenthood gives him a 100% rating. There is a reason the homosexual community supports him. There is a reason Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, Hamas etc. love him. There is a reason he said he would nominate liberal judges to the Supreme Court. There is a reason he voted against the infanticide bill. There is a reason he voted No on the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. There is a reason he voted No on banning partial birth abortion. There is a reason he voted No on confirming Justices Roberts and Alito. These two judges are conservatives and they have since overturned partial birth abortion. The same practice Obama wanted to continue.

Let's take a look at the practice he wanted to continue

The 5 Step Partial Birth Abortion procedures:

A. Guided by ultrasound, the abortionist grabs the baby's leg with forceps. (Remember this is a live baby)
B. The baby's leg is pulled out into the birth canal.
C. The abortionist delivers the baby's entire body, except for the head.
D. The abortionist jams scissors into the baby's skull. The scissors are then opened to enlarge the hole.
E. The scissors are removed and a suction catheter is inserted. The child's brains are sucked out, causing the skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed.

God help him. There is a reason Obama opposed the parental notification law.

Think about this: You can't give a kid an aspirin without parental notification but that same kid can have an abortion without parental notification. This is insane.

There is a reason he went to Jeremiah Wright's church for 20 years.

Obama tells us he has good judgment but he sat under Jeremiah Wright teaching for 20 years. Now he is condemning Wright's sermons. I wonder why now?

Obama said Jeremiah Wright led him to the Lord and discipled him. A disciple is one in training. Jesus told us in Matthew 28:19 - 20 "Go and make disciples of all nations." This means reproduce yourself. Teach people to think like you, walk like you; talk like you believe what you believe etc. The question I have is what did Jeremiah Wright teach him?

Would you support a White President who went to a church which has tenets that said they have a ...

1. Commitment to the White Community
2. Commitment to the White Family
3. Adherence to the White Work Ethic

4. Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community.
5. Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions
6. Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System
7. Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.

Would you support a President who went to a church like that?

Just change the word from white to black and you have the tenets of Obama's former church. If President Bush was a member of a church like this, he would be called a racist. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton would have been marching outside.

This kind of church is a racist church. Obama did not wake up after 20 years and just discovered he went to a racist church. The church can't be about race. Jesus did not come for any particular race. He came for the whole world.

A church can't have a value system based on race. The churches value system has to be based on biblical mandate. It does not matter if it's a white church or a black church it's still wrong. Anyone from either race that attends a church like this would never get my vote.

Obama's former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is a disciple of liberal theologian James Cone, author of the 1970 book A Black Theology of Liberation. Cone once wrote: "Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.

Cone is the man Obama's mentor looks up to. Does Obama believe this?

So what does all this mean for the nation?

In the past when the Lord brought someone with the beliefs of Obama to lead a nation it meant one thing - judgment.

Read 1 Samuel 8 when Israel asked for a king. First God says in 1 Samuel 1:9 "Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do."

Then God says

1 Samuel 1:18 " When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day." 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. 20 Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." 21 When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. 22 The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king."

Here is what we know for sure.

God is not schizophrenic

He would not tell one person to vote for Obama and one to vote for McCain. As the scripture says, a city divided against itself cannot stand, so obviously many people are not hearing from God.

Maybe I am the one not hearing but I know God does not change and Obama contradicts many things I read in scripture so I doubt it.

For all my friends who are voting for Obama can you really look God in the face and say; Father based on your word, I am voting for Obama even though I know he will continue the genocidal practice of partial birth abortion. He might have to nominate three or four Supreme Court justices, and I am sure he will be nominating liberal judges who will be making laws that are against you. I also know he will continue to push for homosexual rights, even though you destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for this. I know I can look the other way because of the economy.

I could not see Jesus agreeing with many of Obama's positions. Finally I have two questions for all my liberal friends.

Since we know someone's value system has to be placed on the nation,

1. Whose value system should be placed on the nation.

2. Who should determine that this is the right value system for the nation?

Last night we were singing with the Angels.

At church we heard an awesome, and inspiring message about how God is always in control. How he is there "When Life Hurts Most".

In John 16:33 Jesus promised that in him we will have peace. When we are immersed in Christ.

1) God love us ... no matter what
2)God maintains control
3) God can use everything, even the worst, for eternal good.
God paints on a canvas bigger than we can see or understand sometimes.

The message was especially applicable to my world right now.

It seems like our normal world has fallen apart and sometimes I wonder if it'll ever return to status quo. Broken cars, lawn mowers, growing aches and pains ( aging I guess), Kristie's mothers surgery, my dads injury and his SLOW recovery. The aging of our parents, several deaths amongst our families and friends recently.

The things every one faces from time to time. And if you are not.. you will soon.

You will have trouble, but remember "Our God Reigns". ( John 16:33 )

Last night at NewSpring we had an alter call, for people to come and pray. People were touched, lives were changed forever. And we sang praises. Along with the angels in heaven who rejoice each time a soul is saved.

Thank you Lord for reminding me daily that you are in control. Thank you for the peace only you can supply. And thank you for leading me to a church of true Christ followers, and for letting me be a part of the amazing things you are doing.

Widow throws party to find place in heaven

This headline screamed out to me as I scanned the news.

A very wealthy 80-year-old widow in India spent thousands on a two day party for more than 100,000 people. Why? She hopes it pleases God, who will “open the doors of Heaven to her”.

What a sad story. I am so glad it doesn’t work that way. It’s interesting how complicated we try to make it. All her effort, time and money wasted. You cannot buy your way into Heaven. You don’t earn entrance via favor. Salvation is a gift from God. It’s free!!!

Eph 2:8 You were saved by faith in God, who treats us much better than we deserve. This is God's gift to you, and not anything you have done on your own.
Eph 2:9 It isn't something you have earned, so there is nothing you can brag about.

It is that simple which works out great, because I am not rich enough in earthly terms and I promise I will do something dumb every day that would keep me out. So I could never “earn it” Fortunately, God offers forgiveness of our sins through grace. He washes them clean. Gone ! Deleted! Never remembered again. All you have to do is ask.

It was a long hard weekend. A rollercoaster ride filled with physical, emotional and even spiritual highs and lows. The past couple of days are what I like to describe as “slow”. Not slow as in uneventful, but slow in that my spirit was down. I would not say I was depressed. It never was that bad. Maybe I could describe it as sad or a little blue. My mood has been rather melancholy the past couple of days.

My birthday was this past Friday and I was sick pretty much all last week. On top of that I was involved in several hectic activities and frankly, though it sounds selfish, I feel like my day passed by with little fanfare. I've have several nagging injuries I am dealing with, and those have bothered me a little more lately . Then there was another little issue on Sunday that truly threw me a curve ball. Come Sunday night and Monday I was down some what. A little “slow”

Some people think Christians should be UP all the time. That’s just silly non-realistic thinking. I don’t believe it is a sin to become discouraged about the events surrounding your daily life. I do think it is wrong to dwell on them or to allow them to grow into something that injures your relationship with God. Causing you to fail to trust in God or talk to him about the issue.

The apostle Paul faced discouragement and even depression. He writes several times in Philippians about his feeling of concern, doubt, and depression. ( chpt 1: 8, 15-16, chpt 2: 19-21, 27-30 ) Again while in prison, confined to a dark cell, he wrote letters confirming that environment and restrictions both can cause depression.

However Paul found a way out of the gloom. In Philippians ( chpt 1:18) he wrote that focus is a powerful way to beat depression. Paul was focused on his desire to be like Christ, he knew he had a purpose and God had a plan for him. ( chpt 3:12-14)

And if we dwell on the negative thought we will prolong depression. ( chpt 4:8 ) It’s a matter of trust. God is in control.

Anyway while I am far from depressed, I have been melancholy. I never had doubts about my faith nor thoughts of hopelessness. I always know that I am loved, but I have had a tough couple of days. In times like this I tend to become quiet and that extended to my writing here.

Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem gives exactly what he was paid for.

The Bible is the totally inerrant, infallible word of God and I would like to challenge the professor or anyone else to disprove a single word that is written in it.

Here is a classic example of where someone espouses a theory and it is accepted as fact. Wild, reckless conjecture passed off as truth.

Professor Shanon has confessed to using ayahuasca, a powerful psychedelic drug based on bark of the acacia tree. Maybe the professor should spend more time with the facts and less time "in research" of his experiences under the influence of narcotics. Just calling it as I see it.

Worthless.

Try Jesus

I've been reading about the life of Jesus. It's a pretty amazing story.

Jesus is not about big business, show business, or even his own business.

He is about the Fathers business and NOTHING else.

With all the power Jesus had he could have called a lot of attention to himself.

But that wasn’t his style

Jesus came to earth with a simple plan. Not His plan, but the Fathers plan.

He honored the one who sent him, the one with more authority. His father.

You see, the son can do nothing by himself. He can only do what he sees his Father doing.

Because whatever the Father does the son does.

John 5:19

Jesus put aside his own ideas, his on will his dreams, and followed the will of the Father.

He was willing to die for it.

That’s something we should take very seriously

Jesus came to this world to pay the price for us. He modeled the behavior the creator wanted for us.

No one said it would be easy.

All things of real, lasting value take hard work and some sacrifice.

But when you believe it and truly live it, then you shall be free.

We all sing 'em Know the words by heart. But have we ever really listened to what they say?

I truly heard this one for the first time last week. Such an amazing song of hope. The whole story.

Pay special attention the the blue phrases and the solution in purple.

Longfellow wrote this song as a poem on Christmas day 1864 in the midst of the Civil War. He still greiving from the death of his wife and had just received the word of the serious wounding of his son in battle. It is filled with near dispair, yet in the end offers the strong hope because "God is not dead." and the promise that someday there will truly be 'Peace on earth, good will to men"

This old hymn now has special meaning to me . I was moved ! From now on you can be sure I will really be listening to what they say.

Thought

With all the different things going on in our lives it is easy to fall into a negative state and become a little discouraged. We tend to forget or overlook our many blessings.

God has blessed me more that I could ever repay. He has blessed me with an amazing Godly woman who is more than I could ever dream or hope for times 1000000000’s. She keeps me truly grounded and daily reminds me about true love with her actions and encouragements. He gave me a wonderful family, a mother and father who taught me about god’s love from birth. I have a nice home and transportation. More friends than I can count. God has let me see the beauty he created in many of the far corners of the earth . God has shown me so many things and I am blessed to be in a church that is on fire in love with Jesus.

I am reminded of the apostle Paul when he was in prison, he was making the best of it. Paul was a man persecuted for teaching about Jesus. He was thrown into jail but he was not discouraged at all. No he followed the teachings of Christ and even led the jailer and his family to the Lord. ( Acts 16 25-33 )

Every day we face hurdles. But using faith and communication with God we can meet the challenges and still find the blessings. We need him. Remember …God is in control…not me. ( Chronicles 7: 13-14, Acts 17: 24-28, Rev 1:8 )
